中国の某都市で生活しています。
必要なものも買えない人々から、
不必要な贅沢品をどんどん購入できる人々まで、
あらゆる人が共存しているのがこの街です。

初めて来て住んだのがつい5年前なのですが、
当時と今との物量および種類の違いに圧倒されます。
地元になじもうとして買った服を今着て歩くと、
明らかに浮きます。

けれども、やはり私は、つい5年前のあの努力を愛しています。
地元らしい服装も愛しています。今は一定の年齢以上の人しか
着ないようなものも持っていますが、それを大事に着ていこうと
考えています。

街のあちこちに、衣類の修理屋があります。日本で買ったり、
お下がりで親からもらった衣類も、日本なら「もう諦めたら？」
と言われるほど傷んでいても、こちらでは上手に直してくれます。
もちろん、「ここは見えないところだから、こういうい感じでいいよね」
と、日本であればありえない直し方をされる場合もありますが、
実用的で丈夫に直してくれるので、10年以上前に買った
お気に入りのスーツも、二度直して着ています。

最近、物価が上がって、必要なものも高くなりました。
それでも、必要なものほど、安いんです、この国、この街は。
そんなわけで、明日もまた、必要なものだけで楽しく過ごすことでしょう。
